    What becomes a gossip columnist most?

If the "alternative country" genre can be defined, Alejandro Escovedo is one of its defining artists. Combining the fiery spirit of his ´70s punk band the Nuns with the rootsy rhythms of his ´80s Los Lobos-ish outfit True Believers, Escovedo's ´90s solo output earned him the title "Artist of the Decade" from the alt-country bible No Depression. Still, he was uninsured and left with insurmountable medical bills when he faced a nearly deadly bout of hepatitis C in 2003. The plethora of artists Escovedo influenced came to his aid with a slew of Austin benefit concerts and a star-studded tribute/benefit album, getting him debt-free and back on the road. Escovedo will make his triumphant return to the Continental Club today at 10 p.m.
