Thirteen doesn't have to be unlucky, and fairy tales don't have to be for kids. Bering & Friends, a musical theater troupe, presents its lucky 13th production at the Alley Theatre, a venue that takes a little luck to land. Once Upon a Time: Fairy Tales with a Grown-up Twist! presents fairy tales promised to make any modestly raised boy or girl sleepless for a night. What's in the table of contents for this storybook? The Friends are injecting The Princess and the Pea, The Ugly Duckling and others with topical humor and racy bravado.

In addition to staging demented stories, Bering & Friends is hosting a silent auction for the Bering Support Network for metal health and support services for Houston's gay and lesbian community. One high-ticket item: a waltz in an anti-gravity chamber with a NASA astronaut. We bet that'd be enough to get Jack to give up his golden egg.
