"The Book of Revelations is about hell, inferno, and all these souls are thrown into hell, being burned," he says. "And I said, Wait a minute, let's put this on the table. What is fire? Hell is supposed to be fire, you know. Fire burns the carpet, the wood, but the soul is not a material thing. A soul cannot be burned. That doesn't really make sense."

What makes sense to Corrigeux is that he is saved, even if not everyone is: "The Bible says that Christ died for many, not for all."

And there's where the gospel gets tricky. Jesus of Nazareth died for your sins, but unless you recognize that in the proper way, unless you realize De Jesús is the Man, your body won't be transformed into spirit at the moment of Rapture. You'll be stuck in your sack of flesh for a little while longer, and only after you've learned the truth will you be transformed.

Creciendo en Gracia accepts everyone, but it's still an exclusive club.

When asked if he believes De Jesús is the Second Coming of Christ, Corrigeux says, "At first, in the beginning, it kind of bothered me, to be honest with you. How can God be talking through a man like that?"

But the more Corrigeux listened, the more he came to understand:

"It's not the flesh; it's what he speaks about."

It's easy to see why people have embraced the gospel of De Jesús.

His followers are constantly told how good they are, how other religions have falsely categorized them as sinners. The ministry has a very open attitude toward homosexuality, for example.

"That's personal, between you and yourself," says De Jesús. "I don't reject people like that."

Much like Joel Osteen, De Jesús preaches prosperity, even if he does criticize the Lakewood pastor for not using enough of the Bible. ("He's a great motivator, but he's not a preacher," says De Jesús. "He reads one verse of the Bible and that's where he ends.") When it was time to pass the bucket during the Sharpstown fellowship, offerings were referred to as "investments," and investments they were, since Creciendo en Gracia rarely gives back to the community and spends most of its money on outreach.

If you're wondering how this jibes with Christ's recurring message that we should help the poor, you're stuck in pre-cross thinking. According to the gospel of De Jesús, everything Jesus of Nazareth said or did before the cross was only said and done as a means to an end, which was the end of sin. And once that end was achieved, nothing before it really mattered.

"Say someone comes here and kills my wife," says De Jesús. "I'm supposed to turn the other cheek? Maybe, or maybe I kill him back."

Be happy, say goodbye to guilt, only worry about yourself -- it's a message that's easy to swallow. But it can also be a little dangerous.

During a recent televised sermon, Bishop Carlos Cestero, who often introduces De Jesús, related the tale of a gay man in Cuba who had slept with someone who had AIDS. The man was sure he'd been infected. But then he found out about Creciendo en Gracia, and when he later got tested, the results were negative. And even though he had never tested positive, these results were presented as proof that De Jesús has healing powers.

"I do miracles, my God, every week," says De Jesús. "I'm a miracle. I'm 60 years old. I don't have an insurance plan. I heal myself, easy. I teach that to my people. My people, they heal themselves easily."

Members of Creciendo en Gracia seem to have a knack for constructing their own realities. Media rep Poessy told the Press the gospel of De Jesús was "causing such a transformation in people's lives that the federal government of the United States wrote to us, asking for this to be the official teaching in prison." When asked for documentation, she provided a letter from the Federal Bureau of Prisons stating the bureau had received several audio cassettes from the church and needed written permission to pass them out -- not exactly an official endorsement, but enough for a believer like Poessy to see what she wants to see.

And as HBU Professor Capes was quick to point out, Paul had plenty to say about struggling with sin. Apparently De Jesús isn't reading those parts.

"Everybody would agree -- in terms of early Christian theology, Paul and John and Peter -- that when the Messiah comes, that war is done away with," says Capes. "But the presence of war, the killing, is proof that the Messiah has not yet come."

Even if you look at the quote from Thessalonians above, which is a Creciendo en Gracia favorite, it says "the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night," not that the Lord would come like one. That line is generally interpreted to mean the Second Coming will come by surprise, out of nowhere, not that the Lord will be a former heroin addict.

But if you're bothered by such things, you probably don't believe De Jesús is the Second Coming of Christ. No problem. He's fine with that. In fact, he urges you to find Him somewhere else.

"But if you find someone else who claims to be Jesus, he has to be teaching what I'm teaching," he says. "That I know."

  6. This man is already telling people who he is and they are not hearing him. He's telling them that he is a thief. What does a thief do? He steals, kills and destroy. Jesus said that he will come AS a thief in the night. That means that He will come when no expects Him to come, just as no one knows when a thief will come and break in their house. But finally in St. Matthew 24:24 it says, "For there shall arise false Christ, and false prophets and shall show great signs and wonders; insomuch that if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect." If these people are not careful this will be another Jim Jones tragedy.

  10. rather, uh, sudden, don't you think? perhaps he, the "divine being", should try not contradicting himself. here's a suggestion, just a suggestion: DON'T TRY TO CHANGE TRADITION IN A NIGHT! if the "old law" is still around after 2000 years, i'm pretty sure that its become the usual, and therefore the more accepted, and therfore, more established and hareder to change.

I know you may be thinking that your little girl is going to take after you, but we still won't believe in you. I won't as long as I'm living and don't worry im 14, but when I get older, my job is to meet those 666 people and rebuke the demon you put in them and make them turn their lives to Jesus because if people believe in ghosts, and goblins and voodoo, then they could believe that Jesus is going to save them and I'm going to devote my life to doing this.     Here's just one example: He contradicts himself in the interview and his own website. He says in the interview that he performs miracles everyday, healing himself and others. On his website, he cites the verse about false teachers doing signs and wonders, and says he does neither, so he's not a false teacher. Well, which is it?

  13. Well anyone who has any biblical knowledge knows that this guy is an AntiChrist. America while fighting terrorism should be knock this guy off. Yea, might sound a little extreme. But when do we start to define what is and what is not extreme? Bush's war tactics and use of the American tax-payer's hard-earned dollars, extreme? Not finding Osama, extreme? This country is so free that we have allowed our morals and beliefs be hindered by freedom. The World Trade Center travesty is a perfect example. We compromised our morals for retalliation on Al-Quaida and not to even mention our freedom to feel safe,(clearing my throat) the Patriot Act. If it takes extreme measures to take our country back from polical and religious figures who are digging a mass grave for all of us, I'm for it. Is what Martin Luther King Jr. did extreme? He did what was right and what he felt was good not only for African Americans but for a country who claims and claimed to be of the Christian faith. I am a Christian, maybe not the best, but I recognize who God is and what he has done for me. It's time for Christians and TRUE believers in Christ to take control. de Jesus has followers who sport tattoos with the number 666 and are attacking chruches and places of christian worship, THAT"S EXTREME and must be stopped by any means neccessary!!

  14. I do not believe this person is the Anti-Christ, he doesnt deserve Biblical mention or historical remembrance. The flesh in me wants to get angry and say horrible things about this man's teachings but i will refrain and live out the example of the true Living God, Jesus Christ, remember, he did not stay dead, HE ROSE FROM THE DEAD 3 DAYS LATER AND IS STILL ALIVE TODAY!!! Mr. De Jesus is obviously a pawn of the true enemy, Satan and we need to pray for him and his mislead followers!!! Jesus died for the sins of us all, even these confused lost souls. And one more thing i would like to point out in the case of Mr. De Jesus, you either believe the Word of God or you don't, you don't get to pick and choose what you want from the Bible, it is not a buffet table where you get to take what you want and leave the rest for somebody with a different taste than yours. You cant preach part of it and expect acceptance of your teaching while disclaiming the validity of the rest of it out of the other side of your mouth. Please take a little time to truly study the word of God!!! You may have a true Messianic experience if you open your ears and heart to the teaching of the true Messiah, Jesus Christ!!!

I probably don't but just in case this is my take...The bible warns of many people trying to deceive the masses into believing that they are God in the end times. The time for Jesus' return draws near. Do not be fooled by pretenders! Stay focused! GOD BLESS YOU ALL! There is and always will be one God and that is God the father, Jesus the son and the Holy Spirit...the holy trinity that is God! Don't be afraid in these cold times be faithful and be firm.   23. I've heard of a psychological condition where those affected have a "God complex" and truly believe they have special powers when they don't. I forget what it's called but it appears he may have it. It's a shame that people are giving his "so called ministry" their hard earned money. I feel sorry for his followers, especially the children being brainwashed.

And it also tells us about these latest times when people will like to hear what their ears like to hear. It is unbelievable but it happens! May God protect us of people like this one!
    Interesting that the author of the article does not mention anything about this guy using the 666 tattooed, or I didn't notice this in his article, because I was too furious, especially after I have just seen the same story on abc at Primetime (Tue 6th mar 2007). Interesting also that the author of the article chose as a title "This Man Thinks He's Jesus H. Christ!" Because I am sure that "this man" does not think at all, not for a second, that he is Jesus Christ, he knows perfectly who he is (shall we call him.. a fraud?! But he wants to make whoever he can to believe that he is Jesus Christ! AS LONG AS HE CAN MAKE MONEY, NOTHING SEEM TO BOTHER HIM. And if he find fools to follow him and give him his money..   37. this man is not jesus or of any such thing. He is in fact the complete opposite, with his sinister smile you cannot see what lies underneath. His eyes dark from years of sin and anger, who is he you ask the demon himself. Jesus has blue eyes and long brown hair from years of enlightenment and taking away peoples anger and making them believe. Not only does this man use technology to show his sermons and bring with it the age of believing in sin but he does so with devices we use to summon jesus to make him realize of who he is.   40. Crazy does not begin to cover this. What I do know is I do agree with De Jesus Miranda on ONE thing (don’t be surprised even insane people occasionally make sense)
    the role that religion plays: just look at how divided the world is today: each religion claiming that theirs is the true word of God like a bunch of school kids fighting over who is the coolest and the baddest...only this is bloodier and the body count just keeps on getting higher. History tends to repeat itself, this has happened so many times throughout history that you would think we'd have learned by now?
    I always wanted to ask this question who gave De Jesus, me, yourselves the right to judge or presume to know what is God's heart or His divine plan?

  42. The world's problems are from religion yes...but from made up religion. Christianity is the one true religion. All others are imposters and they cause the problems in the world today by deceiving the masses into thinking their crap is truth. Terrorists and Islam is the problem not Christianity. Terrorists of Islam are the ones that committing suicide and in the process killing crowds of people at a time. Terrorists are the reason we are fighting a war today and terrorists and evil doers are the reason for all problems. Christianity is not a religion...it is the one way, the one truth, and your only way to eternal salvation. Like it or not everyone finds this truth out eventually. The question is will you find out in life or after death when it is too late! Act now people! Don't conform to the sinning society that we live in. Don't let them tell you Christianity is just another religion and that anti-christs are ok. Don't fall into sin just because it's "politically correct"! Be strong and fight for what is right because if you don't, then no one will.

  46. I know for a fact that he is not Jesus Christ because the Bible tells us that Jesus will not walk among us on this earth because we are all unclean. This earth is also unclean. I think people are very confused about the second coming of Christ. It does not say that Jesus will come to you in plain clothes walking around like you and me. The second coming refers to the rapture. Folks read your Bible and put your faith in God,not man. God Bless You All!!!

The Bible might say that Jesus will come as a thief in the night, but what that means is that He will come as unexpected as a thief at night.   53. Many will come in his name do not believe it if you want to find Jesus look into the eyes of your neighbor and find the Love. We all have a part of him in us for we are all his children. Those who claim to be him are of someone else and their power to fool the simple comes from below! Yes it is what it is and he will eventually come again but it will not be to shake your hand and say well done and good job for the truth has been seen and what eye has not seen nor ear has not heard the saving power of God.
