Like brothers in arms the Gourds and North Carolina's Avett Brothers, Austin's Weary Boys have always brought punk-rock attitude to their adrenalized, bastardized strain of bluegrass. Since moving to Central Texas from Northern California in 2000, anchored by a longtime weekly residency at Austin's Continental Club, they've played a jillion shows and become fixtures on the regional circuit. Lead singer and guitarist Mario Matteoli's 2006 departure for a solo career was the first sign that the Boys were going through some changes, but no one expected the recent announcement that they've decided to disband entirely. This Continental Club gig indeed marks their last Houston hurrah, and they're sure to break a few strings and hearts at the end of what has been a good and honest run.
