Mavis Staples leads an all-star roster at the Solid Blues show. Staples, a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee with a spot on VH1’s “100 Greatest Women of Rock and Roll” list and a recipient of a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, is an undisputed gospel/R&B legend. She won acclaim as both a solo artist and as part of the famed gospel group the Staples Singers, and is best known for her hits “I’ll Take You There” and “Oh, Happy Day,” as well as for her collaborations with such diverse artists as Los Lobos, Bob Dylan and Joss Stone. Sharing the stage with Staples will be Charlie Musselwhite (who was called “the world’s greatest living blues harmonica player” by the New York Press), the North Mississippi Allstars (who won a Grammy for their debut Shake Hands with Shorty) and Joe Krown (Clarence “Gatemouth” Brown’s pianist). 7:30 p.m. Miller Outdoor Theatre, 100 Concert Drive in Hermann Park. For information, call 281-373-3386. Free.
