Galactic's latest trip through Houston should feature not only their trademark groovy jams but also the hip-hop-infused sound of the funky New Orleans quintet's new album From the Corner to the Block. With guests including DJ Z-Trip, Trombone Shorty, Big Chief Monk Boudreau, Soul Rebels Brass Band and Juvenile, From the Corner has drawn raves across the board. The New York Daily News calls the CD "the most exciting hip-hop album of the year...the hottest rock-rap fusion since peak Beastie Boys." Galactic's shows are likewise noted for surprise guests, so there's no telling who might wander into Meridian, but the Coup's Boots Riley and Jurassic 5's Chali 2na are accompanying the group on tour.
